Three vendors were arrested during the market day of Barangay Salong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday morning after they were caught in the act of selling cigarettes without graphic health warnings.
Police investigation said that a reliable informant reported the illegal sale of the items. Upon confirmation, police caught the three suspects engaging in trading and found them in possession and control of cigarette products displayed and sold along the road during the market day of the barangay.
Arrested was alias ‘Peter,’ 46, a resident of Sitio Cabangahan, Barangay Hilamonan, who was nabbed with confiscated cigarettes amounting to P1,800.
In the same area, alias ‘Dandan,’ 34, a resident of Burgos Street, Barangay 9, was also arrested with P12,680 worth of cigarettes and alias ‘Alice,’ 34, a resident of Sitio Buri, Barangay 4, after authorities seized P15,280 worth of the same items.
The arrested persons are under the custody of Kabankalan Component City Police Station for proper disposition and will face charges in violation of Section 6 of RA10643, otherwise known as the Graphic Health Warnings on Tobacco Products Act of 2014.*
