Eight mayors in Negros Occidental have inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental for the releasing of the P50 million financial assistance for Typhoon Tino recovery.
The mayors of La Castellana, La Carlota, Moises Padilla will receive most of the fund at P10 million each.
Meanwhile, the mayors of Bago City, Hinigaran, and Binalbagan signed their MOA to receive their P5 million each. Isabela and Pontevedra mayors will receive P2.5 million each.
Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz III had said that the allocations were based on the numbers of families affected by Typhoon Tino.
La Castellana Mayor Anejo Nicor said that after their signing, the province vowed to download the funds the following week. The fund is intended to assist severely affected individuals recover from their losses due to the typhoon.
The MOA was executed to govern the transfer, utilization, and accountability of the financial assistance granted by the Office of the President, through a deed of donation, to the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental to support relief, recovery, and rehabilitation efforts for the victims of Typhoon Tino.
Based on the MOA, the release of funds shall be subject to the LGUs’ submission of a resolution from their respective sanggunians authorizing the mayor to accept, utilize, and implement the assistance covered by the MOA.
LGUs shall utilize the funds solely for the provision of financial assistance to qualified beneficiaries whose houses were partially or totally damaged as a result of Typhoon Tino, and that the amount of assistance per household shall be determined by the LGU, which shall not exceed P5,000 per household, in accordance with applicable guidelines and shall be based on the extent of damage sustained.
The signing was held at the Provincial Capitol, in the presence of Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II and Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Alberto Nellas Jr.*
