Toddler dies, 6-year-old injured in Bacolod fire

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

A one-year-old girl died, while her 6-year old sister was injured in a fire incident that broke out almost midnight of May 24 at Purok Active in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City.

The toddler was reportedly asleep when the fire took place, and her elder sibling managed to escape, although she suffered burns at both arms and her back, according to reports of the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP).

BFP further reported the house of Stella Sayon, the mother of the victims, was destroyed by the fire. The estimated value of the damage was pegged at P4,000.

The Sayon couple and their two other children were not present at their residence when the blaze took place.

Arson probers are looking at an unattended lighted candle as the cause of fire.

On May 20, two children died while their grandfather sustained second degree burns when a fire also destroyed their home at Purok Lison, Brgy. 1, Bacolod City.

The fire that hit the house also started from a lighted candle, according to the BFP.*
