BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Himamaylan City Mayor Raymund Tongson yesterday said that he is hoping to get the endorsement and support of the leaders of Love Negros- United Negros Alliance (UNegA) coalition for the 2022 elections.

This was after Negros Occidental Board Member Ernesto Agustin Bascon declared his intention to run for mayor of Himamaylan City in next year’s elections.

Ideally, there should be equity of the incumbent, Tongson said.

In Himamaylan City, he said they have already a coalition with members of UNegA and Love Negros.

As a matter of fact, Tongson said three incumbent councilors who previously affiliated with Love Negros already joined their team and will be running under UNegA.

He also said that all of them are solid behind the tandem of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer.

Tongson said he respects the decision of Bascon to run against him in the Himamaylan City mayoralty race.

This is a democracy, as long as you comply with the requirements then you can run. Let him (Bascon) run,” he said.

But Tongson said he is confident that Himamaylanons will still support their team with Vice Mayor Justin Gatuslao.

“I don’t see any reason why the people would want a return to the former administration,” he pointed out.

I don’t see that happening, Tongson said.

But he added that they will wait and respect any decision of Gov. Lacson since Bascon is a member of Love Negros.

We already got the commitment of support of Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, he stressed.*
