“My papa is my idol.”
Himamaylan Mayor Rogelio Raymund Tongson Jr. said he is proud to follow in his father’s footsteps, both in public service and excelling in graduate studies, a press release from Himamaylan PIO said.
“I may have not graduated summa cum laude like my father, I am proud to say that I am following his passion for public service,” said Mayor Tongson who graduated magna cum laude in Masters in Public Administration and Government at the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos 78th Commencement Exercises last June 22.
His father, Rogelio Raymund Tongson Sr., graduated Summa cum Laude with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration in 1986.
“He has always been my idol. I have always been inspired by my papa’s hard work and ethics,” said Tongson Jr. adding that he gets the same level of commitment to serving the people from the former district engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Mayor Tongson said that he would not be able to achieve such great feats in his life without the support of Tongson Sr. and his mom, Erlinda.
“I am thankful to God for gifting me very supportive parents who became my role models.I would not have achieved another milestone without the guidance of my parents and my will to deliver proactive programs, projects and services to my beloved Himamaylanons,” added Tongson.
The city mayor is eager to use his master’s degree to benefit Himamaylanons.
“With the challenges Himamaylan is facing right now, especially the pest infestation, the knowledge that comes with this degree complemented by the competence of our city government civil servants, I have no doubt that we will overcome this hurdle,” Tongson said in the press release.*
