Himamaylan City Mayor Raymund Tongson has clarified that he remains a staunch supporter of the Ferdinand Marcos Jr and Sara Duterte-Carpio tandem.
“I am for BBM for president and Inday Sara for vice president in next year’s election,” Tongson, who personally welcomed presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo during her recent visit on December 23 to Himamaylan City, stressed.
Being the incumbent Vice President, Tongson said VP Leni must be afforded with due courtesy.
Robredo, accompanied by former presidential daughter Kris Aquino, distributed assistance to typhoon victims last week in Himamaylan City.
Tongson said that the Vice President extended help to Himamaylan City residents, who are in crisis, as part of her official function.
During calamities, politics is set aside, he stressed.
Tongson was designated as regional chairman of Team BBM 2022 in Western Visayas, and the only incumbent mayor in Negros Occidental who is a member of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, where Marcos is affiliated.
Tongson also was also among the Negros Occidental mayors who personally welcomed BBM and Sara Duterte at the Bacolod-Silay Airport on December 20, who turned over more than 1,000 sacks of rice as well as food packs for typhoon victims in Negros Occidental.
Tongson said that Himamaylan City has not been spared by the wrath of typhoon Odette, as more than half of the homes in the city had been either damaged or destroyed by the typhoon.
The mayor is thankful of the support coming from the national and provincial governments, as well as private individuals and groups, who continue to bring in assistance to Himamaylanons.*
