What was described as a ‘tornado’ swept through Barangay Blumentritt in Murcia, near the Negros Power substation at about 2 p.m. yesterday, causing significant power disruptions in the area.
The strong winds resulted in power outages along the Bacolod-Alijis 69 kV sub-transmission line, affecting electricity supply to the Alijis and Murcia substations, as well as their respective feeders.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas experienced sudden power interruptions as the weather phenomenon passed through.
As of this time, there have been no reports of major structural damage to Negros Power’s facilities.
However, initial assessment indicates that fallen tree branches and debris were entangled in power lines, necessitating immediate clearing and repair operations.
Negros Power’s technical teams have been deployed to conduct thorough inspections, remove obstructions, and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
Engr. Mervin Dalian, Assistant Vice President of the Network Development and Operations Group at Negros Power, assured the public that their teams are working diligently to address the situation.
Negros Power urges the public to remain cautious and report any downed power lines or electrical hazards in their areas.
The company also advises affected residents to stay updated through official announcements as restoration efforts continue.*
