The Bacolod City government has secured a partnership with a private firm to construct a 96-unit transitory housing project in Barangay Vista Alegre for informal settlers and families displaced from high-risk danger zones.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said the initiative, facilitated through the Bacolod Housing Authority, will provide temporary shelter at no cost to the city government as residents’ transition to permanent relocation sites.
The residents classified as informal settler families or those displaced by environmental risks will occupy these units as they await their transition to permanent relocation sites.
In a media interview, Gasataya said the private developers are required by law to provide a socialized housing share to the government as a prerequisite for their operations.
In this specific case, the private company has agreed to fulfill this requirement by funding and constructing a transitory housing project within the Abada-Escay area in Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City.
Gasataya is set to formally request the Sangguniang Panlungsod for the necessary legislative authority to sign the memorandum of agreement to begin the project.*
