UNDOC PISTON Negros held its general assembly and election of new officers in Bacolod City Sunday, a press release from the group said.

The event served as a platform for enlightening discussions, a renewal of commitment, and the election of key leaders to spearhead the transport group’s continued advocacy for genuine public transport modernization, it said.

Former congressman Pete Pico gave an insightful presentation on the rich history of UNDOC PISTON and the transport movement in Negros Island.

Pico’s shed light on the challenges faced by the industry and the pivotal role played by UNDOC PISTON in championing the rights and welfare of transport operators and drivers in Negros Island.

Additionally, Neri Colmenares, president of BAYAN MUNA, delivered a discussion on the controversial Maharlika Fund. His presentation served as a wake-up call, urging the public and government authorities to scrutinize the fund’s implications and ensure transparency and accountability in its utilization.

Following the discussions, an oath-taking ceremony was conducted, with Colmenares leading the charge. This symbolic gesture solidified the collective determination of UNDOC PISTON to continue its unwavering pursuit of genuine and inclusive public transport modernization.

As an organization deeply committed to safeguarding the interests of small operators and drivers, UNDOC PISTON remains steadfast in its call for the national government to discard the DO 2017-011 Omnibus Franchising Guidelines (OFG). Instead, the organization advocates for a people-centered modernization program that prioritizes the preservation of livelihoods and safeguards against the monopolistic consolidation of franchises, which will only benefit corrupt and unscrupulous officials.

Support for UNDOC PISTON’s cause poured in from various sectors, including the youth, urban poor communities, and allied transport groups such as the NBTC and BACOD, the press release added.

During the election proceedings, the following individuals were elected to lead UNDOC PISTON Negros as the new officers: president – Rodolfo Gardoce; vice president (internal) – Gerry Gallos, vice president (external) – Eric Locson, secretary general – Eric Bendoy, deputy secretary – Jonathan Mahilum, treasurer – Virginia Garcia, auditor – Jaime Bawaan, and public information officer (PIO) – Dominador Lumindog.

The newly elected officers embody the spirit of UNDOC PISTON and are committed to advancing the organization’s mission to protect the rights and welfare of transport operators and drivers.

UNDOC PISTON extended its gratitude to all participants, speakers, and supporters who contributed to the success of the general assembly and election of new officers. Together, with unified voices and unyielding determination, UNDOC PISTON will continue to champion the cause of genuine public transport modernization and the livelihoods of those who depend on it, the press release concluded.*
