Another armed skirmish ensued Thursday at Barangay Humay-Humay in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, leading to slight injuries to an Army soldier.
Lt. Col. Evelio Ilanga III, commanding officer of the 62nd Infantry Battalion, disclosed that patrolling Army soldiers figured in an encounter with about nine remnants of the dismantled Central Negros 1 guerilla unit.
Ilanga said the fleeing rebels fired at pursuing Army soldiers using an M203 grenade launcher, leading to a soldier sustaining slight injuries.
The fleeing rebels left behind an M16 assault rifle, personal belongings, and subversive documents, which were recovered by 62IB soldiers.
The encounter took place after Army soldiers killed seven suspected NPA rebels, including top officials, during an encounter in Brgy. Tapi, Kabankalan City on April 27.
Pursuit operations against the fleeing rebels were ongoing as of yesterday.*
