The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Technology Application and Promotion Institute presented the second prize of the SIBOL Award for Outstanding Student Creative Research for College Cluster for the “Bed Array Hydrokinetic Electricity Generator” invention to students Charls Abeniso, John Paul Alito, Earl John Barbon, Jayvee Demiar, Martin Lumra, Airel Dave Maravilla, Vincent Paul Miravalles and Kennedy Vales.
The 26-student delegation was led by the university’s instructors Engr. Joseph Golingay, Program Head of the Electrical Engineering Technology Department, Jonathan Maligaya, and Engr. Joel Bergola Jr.
Out of the ten entries in the finalist, five were from TUP-V representing Region 6, three entries from Region VII, and two from Region VIII.
TUP-V’s entries, including the winning item, were Development of Bread Enclosure with Shelf-Life Controlling Mechanism, the Development of Egg Freshness Detector, Solar Based E-Bike Charging Station, and a Microplastic Filtration System.
Awards were conferred by DOST VII Assistant Regional Director, Dr. Tristan Abando and Atty. Marion Ivy Decena, DOST-TAPI.
Meanwhile, Golingay, of the university’s Electrical Engineering Technology Department, bagged 3rd place in Best Paper Award and Best Presenter Award for his “Design of a Carbonizer to Utilize Dried Agricultural Wastes in the ASEAN Countryside” during the 1st ASEAN Regional Research Conference organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) at the University of Negros-Occidental-Recoletos in Bacolod City. The research conference was led by CHED Regional Director Dr. Raul Alvarez.
