The Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas (TUP-V) featured their Blue, Green, and Circular Economy-related technologies as they launched their 5th Technology Convention along with their external partners, themed “Kindling Advanced Research and Innovation for the Next-Gen Arena,” held at the activity area of Ayala Malls Capitol Central.

The two-day Technological Convention 2025 runs from April 7 and 8, aiming to ignite and propel research and innovation, with a specific focus on featuring the blue economy, which focuses its innovation on improving the aquatic and fisheries sector in the country; the green economy, which aims to improve the agricultural sector through new innovations and technologies; and the circular economy, which focuses on creating something useful from waste materials.

The event commenced with a word of welcome from the Campus Director of TUP-Visayas, Dr. Eric Malo-oy, and from the TUP President, Dr. Reynaldo Ramos.

“Let’s work together to harness the power of technology to uplift our communities, strengthen our industries, and ultimately, improve the lives of every Filipino. This intervention has the potential to be a catalyst for a brighter future for our country,” Malo-oy said during his inspirational message.

Moreover, the event featured some of the remarkable keynote speakers in the field of engineering and their industry partners, such as the Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation (NWTF), represented by Raymond Patrick Serios, and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), represented by Engr. Rowen Gelonga, CESO II, Secretary of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Dr. Jose Franciso Benitez, and other representatives from the LGUs of Bacolod and Talisay City.

During the press conference, Malo-oy emphasized that the funding of startup innovations that emerged from the research projects of the students came from their external partner industries and government agencies, which helped the student innovators put their knowledge into tangible machinery essential for community development.

The two-day event highlights a series of talks on innovations, the Robotics Competition, Techno Pitch 2025: Faculty and Staff Technology Pitching Session, and the Idea Spark Season 2: Research and Pitching Competition, aiming to further elevate faculty and student-driven research and innovation.

The Idea Spark Season 2, themed “Driven Sustainability: Innovations for a Greener Tomorrow,” is a student competition that fosters entrepreneurial thinking, technological innovation, and sustainability by encouraging research and technologies aligned with the Blue, Green, and Circular Economy, focusing on providing technological solutions to the problems faced by the aquaculture and agriculture sectors. Experts in the fields of aquaculture and agriculture across the Visayas region critically evaluated the proposed studies and interventions.

Furthermore, throughout the event, attendees had a chance to engage with exhibitors and student innovators who featured their prototype inventions related to Blue, Green, and Circular Economy technologies.*
