The Technological University of the Philippines Visayas (TUPV) students are heading to the national Interscholastic Quiz Bowl at the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) on November 14-15, after besting four other academic institutions in the recently concluded 2024 Interscholastic Provincial Quiz Bowl and 3rd Provincial Math Olympiad.
The local competition was organized by the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) in Bacolod City, Saturday, September 14.
TUPV, represented by ECE students Mae Mahinay, Audrey Garcia, Harley John Gelvoleo, Emmanuel Bedayo, Lexther Kimpo, and Marc Jopson, secured 120 points, surpassing the 65 points of University of St. La Salle (USLS), Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) and Fellowship Baptist College – Kabankalan (FBC-K) with 50 points each, and UNO-Recoletos with 5 points.
Engr. Renato Deldo, ECE program head told the DAILY STAR they prepared for the competition despite the inclement weather and the suspension of classes.
The team likewise said that they had to strengthen their efforts for the Interscholastic Quiz Bowl, while acknowledging the assistance of previous quizzers who helped them through mock quizzes, and their coach Engr. Ramnyl John Abeto.
They will vie against the top teams from across the country in the national competition with their coaches, Engrs. Abeto and May Ricciel Benitez.
The IECEP on their Facebook page expressed that the competition was fierce, and the talent on display was nothing short of remarkable.
TUPV was followed by University of St. La Salle and Fellowship Baptist College-Kabankalan, in first and second place, respectively, in the 2024 Interscholastic Provincial Quiz Bowl Champions. Meanwhile, Carlos Hilado Memorial State University – Alijis and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, placed 1st and 2nd in the 3rd Provincial Math Olympiad.*
