Two arrested in anti-loose firearms ops

• RICHARD T. CABALLERO JR.

The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) executed three anti-loose firearms operations leading to the seizure of guns and the arrest of two individuals in Negros Island Region.

The first operation was launched at Barangay Sra. Ascion, San Jose, Negros Oriental, on Wednesday, leading to the recovery of one unit caliber .38 revolver and three live ammunition.

However, the suspect alias Jov, 43, remains at large.

The second operation was carried out in Brgy. Taclobo, Dumaguete, Negros Oriental which resulted in the arrest of alias John, 27.

Police said that the operation was executed following information relayed by a confidential informant indicating that the suspect was actively seeking a buyer for his firearm. Based on these findings, the operatives applied for a search warrant, which was subsequently granted by the court, allowing the lawful execution of the operation.

Confiscated during the operation were a unit of Colt MK IV caliber .45 pistol and three live ammunition.

Another operation was implemented in Sitio Magsaha Barangay Caradio-an, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental which led to the apprehension of alias Ale, a 46-year-old male laborer.

The operation followed after a complaint stating that the suspect was allegedly discharging his firearm within the community, causing fear among the residents. Upon confirming the report and establishing that the suspect did not have a license to own or possess a firearm, the operatives applied for a search warrant, which was subsequently granted by the court, paving the way for its successful implementation.

Recovered from the suspects were a unit improvised shotgun or locally known as “sulpak,” with 10 rounds ammunition of 12-gauge shotgun, a caliber .38 revolver with 3 rounds ammunition.

The arrested individuals are currently under the custody of the operating units for proper legal disposition.

“The police remain committed to sustaining these simultaneous operations, combining proactive enforcement, community cooperation, and strict adherence to the law to eliminate threats and maintain peace and order throughout the region,” PRO-NIR said in a statement.*
