Two civilians died after they were reported to have been ambushed yesterday by unidentified armed suspects in Sitio Mandi-e, Brgy. Magsaysay, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.
The two victims were identified by the police as Jimmer Fundador and Romeo Dungo-an, both swine traders and residents of Brgy. Pacuan, La Libertad, Negros Oriental.
Initial reports of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office showed that the two victims were riding separately in motorcycles, when they were shot by an undetermined number of suspects, who were armed with high-powered firearms.
Both victims succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and were declared dead on arrival at the Guihulngan District Hospital, as reported by the police.
Reports said that the victims were government informants, but this was denied last night by the Philippine Army, citing the report of the police that they were civilians.
Exactly three years ago, PLt. Col. Arnel Arpon, Guihulngan City police chief, and five of his men also died in an ambush claimed by the New People’s Army in the same place.*
