The municipality of Murcia hosted two medical, surgical and dental missions in partnership with two separate organizations last month.
“We earnestly thank Jeonbuk National University Medical School from Jeonju, South Korea and the Lions Club International, particularly our local Lions Clubs and affiliated organizations, for selecting Murcia as the beneficiary of your noble endeavors, which benefitted thousands of Murciahanons,” said Murcia Mayor Gerry Rojas.
“Our special gratitude also goes to the staff of the Murcia Primary Care Unit, headed by Dr. Raymund Antonio Maguad, and to our LGU support staff who assisted our guests in the conduct of this humanitarian undertaking,” Rojas added.
Now on its 16th Medical Service in the Philippines, the Jeonbuk National University Medical School Volunteer Medical Corps regularly visits Murcia and extends free medical, surgical and dental services. The Korean group is composed of doctors, dentists, nurses, medical staff and interpreters who bring modern medical equipment and medicines for their patients, a press release said.
Almost 600 patients, consisting of the elderly, adults and children, availed of medical consultation, while almost 100 patients underwent laboratory tests, which included pregnancy tests, glucose (blood sugar) tests and urinalysis.
More than 100 Murciahanons have undergone dental services and minor surgeries, which were conducted at the Murcia Primary Care Unit. Almost 200 Murciahanons also benefitted from eye-screening and brought home new eyeglasses.
Earlier in February, medical practitioners and staff, including several American doctors, from the Lions Club International, local Lions Clubs and their affiliate organizations conducted medical and dental services in Murcia.
More than 2,000 Murciahanons availed of medical consultation, laboratory services, dental services, minor surgeries, free eyeglasses and medicines during the medical mission spearheaded by the Lions Club International.
