Reelected Negros Occidental Representatives Emilio Bernardino Yulo and Alfredo Marañon III will be working on the linkages with former rebel-affected barangays, through infrastructure projects, and the opening of common corridors between Negros Occidental and Oriental.
With the establishment of Negros Island Region, Yulo said that tourism promotion is among his development agenda and priorities for the 5th district of Negros Occidental, noting its huge potential.
Isabela, La Castellana, Moises Padilla, Binalbagan, Himamaylan City in the 5th district of Negros Occidental, have borders with six towns of Negros Oriental’s 1nd district.
Except for Hinigaran, the hinterlands of Moises Padilla, Himamaylan City, Isabela, Binalbagan and La Castellana, are formerly insurgency-affected areas, some of which were considered by the Philippine Army as strongholds of the New People’s Army in central Negros.
Before the start of the campaign period, Yulo said he and Negros Oriental 1st district Representative elect Emmanuel Iway vowed to work together for the opening of common corridors in the hinterlands of La Libertad and Jimalalud, as well as Binalbagan, Isabela, and Himamaylan City.
Marañon, who ran unopposed for the congressional seat for Negros Occidental 2nd district, said he already started to link up all the mountain barangays of district, including Divina Colonia to VF Gustilo and Puey in Sagay City, to Celestino Villacin in Cadiz City, with road concreting projects.
This will make the transport of goods and products from the hinterlands to the poblacion fast and efficient, he added.
In his first three year term as congressman, Marañon said he was able to facilitate more than P500 million worth of infrastructure projects in the 2nd district.
The construction of Sagay Cadiz Manapla access road is also ongoing, he added.
Yulo and Marañon were proclaimed by the Commission on Election on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, as the winning congressional candidates for the 5th and 2nd districts of Negros Occidental, at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City.*
