Yanyan Dy was hailed as the Most Valuable Player of the game after a huge and dominant performance against IOTA ST-68 of the recently concluded finals in the 40-up category of the Fil-Sino 1st Accelera Basketball Cup.
Dy scored 21 points followed by Arvin Gustilo’s 20, while Julius Teruel added 13. Celhelm Uy recorded three steals, proof of an excellent defensive effort that was just as dominant as their offense.
Ultra 5 led the entirety of the game to sweep their best of 3 series, with a final score 95-81, and were declared as the first champion of the Fil-Sino Accelera Basketball Cup.
Alben Buñol led IOTA ST-68 with a game high 39 points, while Beejay Paredes tallied 10 points.
In the other finals game, Ultra 3 defeated Badak X-treme in overtime, 94-88. Both teams played a tight battle that went down to the wire, decided only during the extra five minutes.
Badak looked better early on, taking a 29-24 lead in the first quarter, but the Ultras outscored them in the second to cut the deficit to just two points, as the game went into the break. It was a nip and tuck affair in the third quarter, where Badak ended up with the lead going into the final quarter, 67-61.
Badak kept their momentum going in the fourth quarter, leading by nine points with more than a minute remaining, but Ultra 3 had a later run as Harvey Eslawa drained three buckets from behind the rainbow line to complete the comeback and force the game to overtime.
Ultra 3 iced the game in the extra time to even out their best of three series with 1 win each.
Harvey Eslawa led the way for Ultra 3 with 23 points. Kelvin Gatoc delivered 16, while Michael Calibo, Christopher Teodosio, Jai Arroyo, Malvin Pineda, and Ojay Gumbao posted 10 points each. Randy Colonia led Badak X-treme with 15 points and James Garrucho followed up with 14.*
