Yanyan Dy grabbed the player of the game honors, scoring 19 points as the Ultra 5 beat Eco Plush with a final score of 84-65, handing the Ecos their second straight loss as the hostilities at the Fil-Sino 1st Accelera Basketball Cup continued.
Julius Teruel added a team high 20 points with six 3-pointers, as the Ultra looked sloppy at the start, having only 7 players pick up a slack with a series of strong drives to the basket and lead by ten after the first half.
The Ecos worked their way back into the game in the third, but were able to outscore the Ultras only by a point. The latter then rained buckets in the fourth to gain meaningful ground, outscoring the former to cruise their way to the victory. Richard Co produced 19 points for Eco Plush, followed by Oliver Castro with 17, while Siote Tan drained five shots from behind the arc for 15 points.
IOTA -ST68 defeated M/T-01.
The other game was between IOTA -ST68 and M/T-01, where the former came in full force with all 14 players in their lineup. However, the latter were not intimidated as they took the lead during the first two quarters, 13-9 and 33-30, respectively.
Then IOTA came out on fire in the third, and coupled with great defense, held the M/T to a single digit quarter, outscoring them 21-8 to establish a 10 point lead going into the final quarter.
It was a back and forth affair in the fourth but it ended in IOTA’s favor with a final score of 66-56. Ben Bunol led IOTA-ST68 with 15 points and player of the game honors, while Ogie Ureta led M/T-01 with 14 points.*
