The Police Regional Office 6 declared that the celebration of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day was generally peaceful in Western Visayas, with the absence of any major incidents that can be attributed to the celebration.
About 2,500 police personnel were deployed by PRO-6 across the region to man different Police Assistance Desks in various cemeteries, ports, terminals, and areas of convergence, and 1,872 force multipliers were mobilized to assist in the celebration.
In a statement, PBrig. Gen. Jack Wanky, regional police director of Western Visayas, attributed the accomplishment to the 2,500 policemen deployed in provinces of Negros Occidental, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
“We recognize the sacrifices and commitment of our unit commanders and all police personnel across the region for truthfully and dedicatedly performing their individual tasks that led to a peaceful 2024 ‘Undas,’” said Wanky.
The PRO6 also noted a reduction of crime incidents by 12.5 percent from October 31 to November 2, as they recorded 77 crime incidents, compared to 88 in the same period last year.
As to the eight focus crimes, it recorded 12 incidents, compared to 22 in 2023, it added.
The eight focus crimes are comprised of murder, homicide, physical injury, theft, robbery, rape, carnapping of motor vehicle, and carnapping of motorcycle.
“As the people are about to return to their workplaces and students go back to school, our police visibility and other police interventions will continue to ensure that everyone is safe and secure,” Wanky added.*
