Two catering services have been slapped with a two-year ban from all Bacolod City Government Employees Union (BCGEU) events following a food safety issue that left 1,124 food packs spoiled during the Employees Day celebration last December.
The union’s decision to blackball the providers comes alongside a significant financial penalty, as the city government confirmed it will deduct P224,800 from the total payment due to the caterers to cover the cost of the wasted meals.
Bacolod City Administrator Atty. Mark Steven Mayo said that they will be establishing a dedicated committee specifically tasked with the food distribution for future Employees Day.
Mayo said that the union will be having a pro rata computation to the 2 caterers to correspond with the amount and volume of the food delivered.
The total amount allocated to the food was more or less P1.3 million.
Mayo clarified that the ban was for BCGEU engagements alone.*
