University of Santo Tomas athletes exhibited their prowess in this year’s Masskara Beach Volleyball tournament, clinching three medals in the men’s category at the games held at the University of St. La Salle.
Thomasian athletes dominated with powerful performances, hindering all their contenders from reaching the top spot, securing gold, silver, and bronze medals.
Dominique Gabito and Alchie Guppiteo of UST 1 defeated fellow Thomasians Aldwin Guppiteo and Lance Malinao of UST 2 in a closely fought match that ended with a 22-20 scoreline to grab the championship medal.
The impressive performance of the Guppiteo brothers marked a proud moment for the Tigers, showcasing the school’s depth and dominance in the game of speed, skills, and strength. UST 2 will bring home the silver medal after defeating other top contenders.
Meanwhile, another UST team also claimed the bronze medal after an impressive performance against the La Salle Stingers, where the game was decisively settled with a score of 21–15.
In the women’s category, UST claimed another championship title, leaving the Colegio de Sta. Ana Victorias (CSAV) with the silver medal.
The University of the Philippines (UP) and Bacolod Vipers volleybelles and secured the 3rd and 4th places, respectively.
The invitational tournament is part of the ongoing MassKaralympics, a sporting event organized by the Gugma Foundation, Inc. as part of celebrations for the 46th MassKara Festival.*
