
Varta defeated Jumbo 126-93.
Varta came in full force, playing with a complete line up, however, the Jumbos were not intimidated as both teams had a close first quarter, 26-24. In the second quarter, Matt Deles and Carlo Chu came out shooting buckets to bolster their lead to a huge 24 points going into halftime.
Varta kept the momentum going in the third quarter to extend their lead going into the final frame, 100-69. Having built such a discrepancy in the score, Varta ensured the final period would be a formality, adding another 2 points to the difference on their way to the easy 126-93 victory.
Matthew Tan led Varta with 18 points, followed by Matt Deles with 16, while Carlo Chu registered 12, and Michael Veñegas tallied 10 points and grabbed the player of the game honors. Michael Calibo made 8 from behind the arc to lead Jumbo with 26 points, while Raffy Canizares and Francis Tulbo scored 18 and 16 points, respectively.
In the other game, GoodYear Tires defeated Gold Partner Truck 92-90.
A 14 point performance by Michael Deocadiz led the Gold Partner Truck to a strong 31-16 start after one quarter. It was a tight battle in the second, but the Golds maintained a double digit lead after the first half.
A different GoodYear came out in the third, as they took over the game and cut the deficit to just one point going into the final frame, 68-67. The Golds kept up pace in the fourth, but GoodYear stayed a step ahead and charged to complete the comeback victory.
Kim Dimaranan led GoodYear with 24 points, Michael Ang tallied 14 points and player of the game honors, while Ronald Delada added 11 points. Harvey Eslawa paced Gold Partner Truck with 24 points, followed by Michael Deocadiz with 17, while Malvin Pineda registered 14 points.*
