The Bacolod City Legal Office has issued a 10-working day notice for 41 stalls currently operating around the perimeter of the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) to vacate the area.
According to City Administrator Atty. Mark Steven Mayo, their presence is a violation of the deed of donation signed between the city government and the donor of the land where the BCGC stands.
Under the terms of the donation agreement, the city is obligated to keep the surrounding area free from business activities and unauthorized structures to maintain the integrity of the government site.
Mayo clarified that while certain activities like the blind massage service are permitted, regular daily business vending is strictly prohibited; however, he noted that exemptions may be granted during festival periods.
Mayo noted that while the vendors have not opposed the notice, they have formally requested the city government to help them find an alternative location where they can continue their livelihoods.*
