Villamonte entry takes the prize for Mask Higantes Giant Puppets

Barangay Villamonte’s “Electric MassKara” themed giant puppets dominated the 1st Electric MassKara Festival 2025 Mask Higantes Giant Puppets competition Wednesday at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds.

The artist of Villamonte (Contestant No. 7) was Christopher John Puerta.

Barangay 11 (Contestant No. 2) won first place with the concept “Festival Goers and Tourists” by its artist Josh Descatamiento.

Barangay Tangub (Contestant No. 1) landed second place with the concept “Artists Making Masks and Costumes” by Stephen Efundo.

Eight entries participated in the competition, six from the barangay, and one from a school – Bacolod City College. Each entry was represented by two puppets.

Other participants were Bacolod City College “Photographers” by Alpha Grace Samillano; “Manug-Inasal” of Brgy. 3 by Marven Galea; “MassKara Dancers” of Brgy. Bata by Aldrin Pasuelme; “Manuglibods” of Brgy. Sum-ag by Zeus Birondo; and “Sinadya sa Peryahan” of Bacolod City College by Roderick Dela Rosa.

The Board of Judges was composed of Barney Molina, Jaime Chua, with Rene Hinojales as chairman.

Event head was Tey Sevilleno, president of the Art Association of Bacolod-Negros.*
