Virus death toll hits 187, teachers among fatalities

There are now 187 COVID-19 deaths in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City.

Bacolod City’s death toll hit 105, the Department of Health reported yesterday.

Negros Occidental had 82 COVID-19 fatalities as of Thursday, with Silay City having the most number at 24, a Provincial Health Office also reported.

Other areas with COVID -19 fatalities are Talisay City – 18, Bago City – 8, La Carlota City – 6, EB Magalona, Pontevedra, Binalbagan and Himamaylan City – 3 each, San Carlos City, Sagay City, Victorias City, Valladolid and Sipalay City – 2 each, and Escalante City, Cadiz City, Murcia, and Hinigaran – 1 each, the PHO report furnished by Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian, Provincial Disaster Management Program Division chief, further showed.

Bacolod City had 60 new COVID-19 cases and Negros Occidental had 72 yesterday, the DOH also reported.

This brings the COVID-19 cases in Bacolod City to 4,322 and Negros Occidental to 3,417, the DOH reported.

Meanwhile, Western Visayas has lost seven teachers to the COVID-19 pandemic, and among the latest fatalities is a male teacher from the Barangay Bata National High School in Bacolod City, Regional Director Ma. Gemma Ledesma of the Department of Education said.

There are 28 teachers with COVID-19 in the region, she said.*
