Four personnel of the Valladolid District Hospital (VDH) in Valladolid town, Negros Occidental, tested positive for COVID-19, causing the hospital to briefly close, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said yesterday.

A doctor, nurse and two nursing attendants tested positive, prompting the closure of the hospital Monday for disinfection, he said.

The hospital was reopened yesterday after its other personnel tested negative for the virus, he added.

Diaz said they could not keep the hospital closed for too long because of the shortage of medical facilities already being felt in the province.

The doctor is on home quarantine, the nurse has been admitted to the Cadiz District Hospital, one nursing attendant is quarantined at the VDH while the other one has been admitted to the Adventist Medical Center – Bacolod, Diaz said.

The four are believed to have been infected by a female patient suffering from fever caused by urinary tract infection, who was admitted at the VDH, and died after four days.

The patient’s swab specimen test result showed that she was positive for COVID-19, he added.

The VDH is a 25-bed hospital that the provincial government is upgrading to 100, he added.*
