There are now 43 police personnel assigned in Western Visayas who have tested positive for COVID-19, Lt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 6, said yesterday.

Of the 43 COVID-19 patients, 16 have recovered, one died, while 26 others are active cases, Malong said.

Three of the COVID-19 patients are assigned at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, while five are members of the Bacolod City Police Office.

The NOPPO personnel and three BCPO members are among the 16 who have already recovered.

Malong also reported that majority of police personnel infected by the virus are assigned at the police regional headquarters in Iloilo City, while others have been stationed in hotels, securing returning Overseas Filipino Workers, who are being quarantined.

The PNP reported that as of Sept. 2, 4,420 of its members have tested positive for COVID-19, with 2,938 already recovered and 16 died.*
