Fifty-six jail officers and persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in jail facilities in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, have tested positive for the coronavirus disease, as of yesterday.

Nine of them have recovered, while 47 are active cases, Jail Senior Supt. Gilbert Peremne, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-6 assistant regional director for administration, said yesterday.

Nine out of 17 jail personnel at the Metro Bacolod District Jail-Male Dormitory at Magsaysay Street in Bacolod, who were swabbed, yielded positive results, Peremne said.

He said 22 out of 39 PDLs who were tested at MBDJ-MD were also positive for the virus.

At the MBDJ-MD Annex in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod, five personnel are now on recovered status, while at the MBDJ-Female Dormitory, one of the two Covid-positive jail officers has recovered.

There were no PDLs at the facility who contracted the virus, Peremne said.

Meanwhile, 16 newly-committed PDLs have tested positive for the virus, three of whom have already recovered at the Negros Occidental isolation facility in Bacolod, while a jail personnel assigned there also tested positive.

Another jail officer at the Talisay City jail had also contracted the virus, he said. Peremne said that jail personnel at MBDJ-MD were isolated in their barracks while the 22 Covid-positive PDLs will be transferred to the BJMP Covid Center in Talisay.*
