Bago Mayor Nicholas Yulo said yesterday that the second COVID-19 fatality in his city, who died Sunday, was a diabetic.
“The Bago City government announces with deep regret its 2nd Covid-19 death. We sincerely condole with her family and ask everyone to pray for her eternal repose,” the mayor said.
Yulo said that, based on their investigation, the 49-year-old female from Proper North, Barangay Taloc, Bago, was admitted at the Bacolod South Hospital on August 11 experiencing respiratory symptoms and was diagnosed with pneumonia.
The woman, who was diabetic, tested positive for COVID-19, he said.
Her husband was working at Panasiatic Solutions and had developed a fever even before his wife exhibited COVID-19 symptoms, the mayor said. The husband had also gone to the PhilHealth Office in Bacolod, Yulo added.
The couple have two daughters. The eldest is 18 years old and the youngest is 7. When the father became a COVID-19 suspect case, the eldest transferred to a relative’s house and the youngest stayed with him, the mayor said.
The father and the youngest daughter have been tested for COVID-19 and are awaiting results, he said.
They are currently both asymptomatic and have been instructed to observe strict home quarantine.
Another identified close contact was the tricycle driver who drove the couple to the Bacolod South Hospital on August 6, the mayor said.
Yulo said they are tracking down the driver and are conducting further contact tracing.
The mayor called on Bago residents to continuously practice safety measures, such as proper hand washing, wearing of face shields and masks, and observing social distancing.
“We are calling on all Bagonhons to stay at home if you don’t have important matters to attend to and avoid crowded places,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Bago City government announced yesterday that all 46 employees of the Bago City Hospital, who were exposed to a COVID-19 positive contractual doctor, tested negative for the virus.
The Bago City Hospital resumed normal operations yesterday.*
