Voter registration in Negros Occidental has showed signs of increasing after the yuletide season.

In his report, Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria said that there were 6,023 voter applicants during the fourth week of registration, which is higher compared to the first three weeks.

During the first week, Commission on Election records showed that there were 4,319 voter applicants but it slowed on the 2nd week with only 3,452 and it further went down to 2,036 on the 3rd week.

Ananoria attributed the low turnout of applicants for voter registration to the holiday season, stressing that everyone was busy with parties and activities related to the Christmas season.

As of January 7 this year, Bacolod City logged 2,084 applicants, or a total of 15,829 after four weeks.

San Carlos City registered the highest number of voter applicants during the 4th week with 626, while Manapla recorded the lowest number of applicants with just 13.

Overall, San Carlos City had the most number of voter applicants after the four-week period with a total of 1,273.*
