Walang gutom program launched in Bacolod

With the aim to alleviate hunger and ensure food security for low-income households, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) launched the program entitled, “Walang Gutom 2027: Food Stamp Program” with 172 beneficiaries attending the event Monday at the Bacolod City Government Center Lobby, according to a press release from Bacolod City PIO.

It was attended by Mayor Albee Benitez, Councilors Simple Distrito, Em Ang, and Celia Flor, DSWD Undersecretary for Innovations and Concurrent national program Director of the Walang Gutom Program Eduardo Punay, DSWD Regional Director Field Office VI Atty. Carmelo Nochete, OIC Division Chief Promotive Services Division Judith Tanate Barredo, Division Chief, Innovations and Program Development Asuncion Santiago, and other representatives coming from the DSWD.

The Walang Gutom Program is a national initiative mandated by Executive Order No. 44 wherein beneficiaries coming from low-income households can avail a P3,000 worth of food package every month for the duration of 3 years through Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards with the exception of 4Ps beneficiaries.

The food package includes 25 kilos of rice, a potato, chicken, eggplant, squash, and cabbage, among many others.

A redemption activity was also conducted at the last part of the event where beneficiaries received the opportunity to claim their food essentials.*
