Water Watch Advocates is urging the acting general manager of BACIWA-PrimeWater to prioritize the interest of the consumers and offered several recommendations.
Wennie Sancho, convenor of Water Watch Advocates, welcomed acting BACIWA-PrimeWater general manager Michael Soliva, in his letter dated August 28, and informed him that their group is an organization dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, and reform in the water sector.
“We understand that you will inherit a multitude of challenges, including the lingering issues of water scarcity, poor service, and controversy surrounding the joint venture agreement (JVA) with PrimeWater,” his letter said.
“As you take the helm, we urge you to prioritize the interests of the consumers, who have been suffering from the inefficiencies of the current system. To guide you in your new role, we would like to offer the following recommendations: to conduct a thorough review of the JVA and its implications on the water district’s operations and finances; to engage with stakeholders, including consumer groups, local government officials, and employees, to understand their concerns and expectations; to prioritize transparency and accountability in all aspects of BACIWA-PrimeWater’s operations, including financial management, procurement, and customer service,” Sancho said.
He also recommended that Solivan develop a comprehensive plan to address the water crisis, including strategies to improve water supply, reduce non-revenue water, and enhance customer service; and foster a culture of accountability within the organization, ensuring that employees are held responsible for their actions and performance.
“We believe that with your leadership, BACIWA-PrimeWater can turn a new leaf and provide the much-needed relief to the consumers. We look forward to working with you to ensure that the water district serves the best interests of the people,” Sancho’s letter added.*
