• RICHARD T. CABALLERO JR.

A welder walking along the road at Hacienda Siason, Barangay Caliban in Murcia, Negros Occidental, was shot dead by an unidentified assailant at around 6 a.m. yesterday.

The victim was identified as Crispin Lingamen, a 58-year-old welder allegedly working at the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) and a resident of the barangay.

Initial investigation by the Murcia Municipal Police Station revealed that Lingamen, while walking along the road on his way to work in Bacolod City, was waylaid by unidentified suspects who shot him several times, hitting various parts of his body.

Police said that there were about two male assailants behind the death of the victim, who immediately fled the scene after gunning down the victim.

Residents in the area testified that before the discovery of the body, they heard at least four gunshots in the area.

The victim, after suffering gunshot wounds in his back and in the eye, was immediately brought to the nearest hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Murcia MPS Acting Chief of Police PCapt. Honey Labaro.

As of press time, the suspects and the motive behind the crime were still undetermined as the investigation was underway. The incident was reported by an informant through the 911 emergency hotline.*
