Wenceslao takes reins of NOCPPO

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

PCol. Dennis Wenceslao formally assumed his position yesterday as officer-in-charge of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, amid a spate of unsolved killings and summary executions perpetrated and claimed by the New People’s Army.

Wenceslao admitted that challenges ahead will not be easy, referring to the unsolved shooting incidents, where suspects remain unidentified.

But he expects that the activation of the Joint Focus Legal Action Team (JFLAT) – Negros Island Region will be a big help in the resolution of those unsolved cases.

According to the PRO-NIR, the activation of the JFLAT “underscores a united, whole-of-government approach, enhancing the delivery of justice throughout Negros Island.”

It said the formation of JFLAT marks a strategic leap in aligning operational and legal efforts between the Philippine National Police and prosecutorial bodies.

Wenceslao, who was the head of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division of Police Regional Office – Negros Island Region, disclosed that the JFLAT will take over cases that cannot be resolved by the police, for various reasons.

JFLAT, according to PRO-NIR, is designed to harmonize case-building protocols, provide real-time legal consultation, and ensure the efficient and accurate filing of criminal charges.

Regarding the separate discoveries of five dead bodies in Talisay City, Wenceslao said the case is now being investigated by the Special Investigations Task Group.

In his speech during the turnover rites, which was held at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City, presided by PCol. Dennis Esguerra, Deputy Regional Director for Administration, Wenceslao disclosed that challenges ahead of him will not be easy.

But I have absolute faith that with unity, discipline, and unwavering dedication, we will overcome anything, he said.

“To the people of Negros Occidental, I give you my personal assurance: your police force is here for you. We are ready to listen, ready to act, and ready to serve with the utmost honor and integrity,” Wenceslao further said.

Esguerra and Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson congratulated his predecessor, PCol. Rainerio de Chavez for a job well done.

Under the command of De Chavez, NOCPPO has accomplished remarkable feats in law enforcement, crime prevention, and community engagement, Esguerra said.

With his proven track record of competence, professionalism, and dedication, Esguerra said he is confident that Wenceslao will continue the momentum and even bring NOCPPO to greater heights.

Lacson assured his full support to Wenceslao, similar to one the provincial government extended to his predecessors.*
