Depending on circumstances, it’s usually “Kung sin-o naga uyat sg luwag…” sort of a given. The proverb came to mind as a royal princess of our Tiongco clan passed by Paris to celebrate her engagement to a Caram laddie, Abbie who’s a self-driven knight in shining armor.

Imagine the Tour Eiffel as your backdrop, bringing with you family, like sisters two Mary and MC. Enchanting Cora Buffa, Mom of the groom (whose beauty reminded me of Liza Marcos) and LA Hollywood beauties Minnie Resurreccion, Nathalia and Sam Banos who I thought were more sistahs-but turned out to be Mom AND 2 sistahs!

After cheers of Rosé wine at our Paris maison, we just followed the traffic green lights which eventually led us to FABULA. It’s the latest restos éphémères that keep popping up all over the City of Lights, giving new life and stamina to the billion-dollar tourism industry that has been taken for granted by bureaucracies, until the pandemic.

Once again, these are nouveaux lieus des rencontres, people to see and be part of a scene. It’s just like in the movies, I tell you, we were seated in the cour d’honneur of the interior gardens of the Musee Carnavalet, Paris’ premiere lifestyle museum down my hood. Yes, Emily in Paris will soon film here.

Virgin drinks (non-alcohol) are chic so, I ordered a cucumber mint bubbly. My eye was on the veal as a main dish but since everyone wanted one, I settled for some holy mackerel, indeed, since it came kinilaw style. LUV’d it accompanied with locally sourced French string beans (yes, supermarkets sell Kenyan sort) and with the cool summer air that intoxicated the crowds around us, I felt good!

Clockwise, l-r, Maria Cecilia Tiongco, Cora Buffa, Minnie Ressurrecion, ELG, Mary Golez, Abbie Caram, Samantha and Nathalia Banos and Pål Larsen*

Without reservations, I managed to bring in 10 pax to a really packed restaurant that’s in the A-list of the moment. Tables were strewn around the ancient pebble alleys turning around the gardens. Everyone looked beautiful and happy even though I was in shorts. Lucky couple to be engaged in Paris!

MY PRAYER

Today, indulge me with prayers for the death anniversary of my Tionko-Montelibano grandmother Doña Sefit.

For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch. Isaiah 62:1, NIV*
