The widening of the 1.2-kilometer access road at the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Economic Highway leading to the Bacolod-Silay Airport road in Silay City is nearing completion, District Engineer Jaime Javellana of the Department of Public Works and Highways Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office, said.
The project, worth P45.94 million, involves the widening of roads, from two lanes to four lanes, with width of three meters, he said, adding that travel going to the airport would be easier as it increases the traffic corridor capacity.
Javellana said the Bacolod-Silay Airport road extension project is approximately 90 percent accomplished and is expected to be completed this month.
“We are optimistic that we will be able to complete this priority project earlier than its expected completion schedule, in spite of the erratic weather and the onset of the rainy season,” Javellana said.
He said the widened road will reduce travel time, and will help in the faster delivery of services and transport of sugarcanes to mills, provide ease of travel among sugar producers, traders, rural population, and the general public, he added.*
