A 78-year-old woman was hacked to death and her husband, 70, was injured by two allegedly drunk suspects in Sitio Carbon, Brgy, Hilub-ang, Calatrava, Negros Occidental Saturday.

The two suspects, identified as Reno Biatinggo, 24, and Celfred Duga-Duga, 28, were arrested by the Calatrava police and locked up in jail, almost three hours after the crime was committed.

Police investigations show that the two suspects were on their way home to Sitio Gaas in Brgy. Hinab-ongan, Calatrava, when they met and hacked Librada Suelto several times without provocation.

Lorenzo Suelto, who was carrying two sacks of charcoal and following his wife, suffered hack injuries on his right arm and leg, the police said.

Librada was reported by the police to have been declared dead on arrival at the Calatrava Municipal Hospital, while her husband is now being treated for his injuries at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

TWO OTHERS HACKED

Meanwhile, two 47-year-old women were also attacked and hacked with a cane cutter by the suspect identified by the police as Warren Calago on July 16 in Sitio Sapwa, Brgy. Biak na Bato, La Castellana.

The victims, identified as Wilma dela Torre and her sister, Myrna, are now being treated at the CLMMRH while Calago, 21, was arrested by barangay tanods Richard Eustaquio and George Vesario and detained at the town police custodial facility.

The motives for the hacking incidents are still being established by the Calatrava and La Castellana police stations.

Also on Saturday, two unidentified armed men shot Alex Sugdon Jr. in Purok Logdeck, Brgy. Igmaya-an, Don Salvador Benedicto, also on Saturday.

The unidentified suspects, who disembarked from a sports utility vehicle, opened fire on the motorcycle of Sugdon, with a certain Cecil Amit as back-rider.

Sugdon, who sustained a gunshot wound, was brought to the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City while the two suspects fled on board the SUV.

Recovered at the scene of incident were six empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol.

DRUG-BUSTS

Operatives of the Bacolod City Police Office Drug Enforcement Unit arrested three individuals and seized P135,000 worth of suspected shabu in two buy-bust operations in barangays 19 and Vista Alegre Saturday.

P/Major Sherlock Gabana, BCPO spokesperson, said Krisha Agsam, “alias Bukay”, 41, of Burgos Street in Brgy. 19, and her neighbor, Dennis Selobo, 43, were arrested by DEU operatives for allegedly selling suspected shabu at about 11:15 p.m.

Gabana said policemen recovered five sachets of suspected shabu, weighing about 16 grams and worth P108,800, and P500 in marked money from the suspects.

Station 7 operatives, led by P/Captain Elmer Bonilla, nabbed John Paul Alferez, 27, of Zone 3, Abada Escay in Brgy. Vista Alegre, for selling suspected shabu to a police poseur buyer near his house at about 7:30 p.m., also on Saturday.

Alferez, tagged by the police as a street level individual, yielded 12 sachets of suspected shabu, weighing four grams and worth P27,200, and P500 in marked money.*
