A “police asset” is now in hot water for the death of a policeman last week in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

Lt. Col. Robert Mansueto, Cadiz City police chief, said yesterday that Beverly Latosa, who admitted to be a police asset, was charged Friday for homicide, during inquest proceedings at the Cadiz City Prosecutor’s Office.

The filing of homicide charges against Latosa was based on the testimonies of two witnesses, with one of them claiming that the suspect managed to wrestle the gun from the possession of the victim, SSgt. Bernie Sales, before it went off, Mansueto said.

Sales, an intelligence operative of the Sagay City Police Station, died on Nov. 26, while being treated at the Cadiz Emergency Clinic. He succumbed to a gunshot wound in the lower part of his breast, and the bullet exited from his back, the Cadiz City police said.

Mansueto said the result of the paraffin tests on Latosa, 25, and Sales, from the PNP Crime Laboratory, is expected to be known today.

A 9mm pistol with 6 ammunition and a magazine, and a fired cartridge recovered from the scene of incident, are now in the custody of the Cadiz City Police Station.

Latosa is now detained at the Cadiz City police custodial facility.*GPB
