The body of a woman from Kabankalan City was recovered yesterday at approximately 11:30 a.m., along the riverbank in Barangay Andulauan, in the town of Ilog.
The victim, identified as Estrella Barcoma, 60, a resident of Piliopiliohan, Barangay Inapoy, Kabankalan, was swept away by the river on October 30.
She reportedly slipped during an attempt to cross the river and was washed away by the strong current.
Due to the length of time the body had been in the water, the victim’s face was unrecognizable.
She was found with her hair missing and only her skull remaining.
Despite the condition of the recovered remains, the victim’s child confirmed her identity based on the distinctive clothing she was wearing and the presence of a belt or tie around her waist where she used to hang her harvesting tool.*
