Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday lauded the women of Negros Occidental for launching a project which aims to promote the collection of vegetable seeds and cuttings, and establish home and community gardens.
The governor, who attended the launching of “Liso, Kabuhi Ko” at the Social Hall of the Capitol in Bacolod City, said we need to maximize all our available resources to cope with the setback caused by COVID-19, a press release said.
“Developing home gardens for food security, health and nutrition, and future income generation is not only brilliant but also very doable,” he said.
Lacson also thanked the Bureau of Plant Industry and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist for their support to the project which is spearheaded by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Women, Children and Family Affairs, and the Provincial Council for Women, chaired by Board Member Rita Angela Gatuslao and lawyer Andrea Lizares-Si, respectively.
Women leaders from component cities and municipalities and sectors who attended the launching program received seeds and seedlings from the BPI.
Before the project launch, Sammy Bungo of the OPA gave an orientation on vegetable production, while Reynic Alo of the Multi-Sectoral Alliance for Development-Negros presented their House Food Farming Program.
Fresh fruits and vegetables were also displayed and sold during the project launch.*
