The interesting about military aid, such as the one that the United States of America had been sending to Ukraine, is that it is a great way to transfer legitimate funds from the government to private corporations in the industrial-military complex, while generating good PR for the country, since the defender of democracy is also lending a helping hand to the nation under attack.
The US doesn’t actually give away money for Ukraine to buy weapons and ammo in Shopee or Lazada, but gives it from its own massive but aging stockpile, which it cannot use unless it is also dragged into a full blown shooting war. So it cherry picks the oldest stuff, the ones that are most nearing expiry date, to give away. For the new stocks that it gives, those are bought from US weapons manufacturers, so the money doesn’t actually go to Ukraine, but to its American suppliers.
It’s a win-win situation for everyone, where the biggest financial winner is the one who gets the multi-million or billion dollar contracts to replace the donated old stocks or produce the weapons and ammo needed in the war.
The country that needs the military aid gets the weapons, ammo, and equipment it needs to defend itself from a powerful aggressor with deep pockets like Vladimir Putin’s Russia, the US looks good for sending the necessary aid, while at the same time replacing its old stocks that are due to expire and providing business to military contractors or manufacturers who are glad to get new orders worth at least millions of dollars. The military-industrial complex is always the big winner whenever there is a war somewhere out there, since both sides will always need guns, bullets, artillery shells and barrels, FPV drones, tanks and anti-tank missiles.
However, despite such a win-win situation, the USA under their new leader Donald Trump, have decided that they are not getting enough from their aid deal with Ukraine. It’s either that, or Trump has been brainwashed by the Russians into finding ways of withholding the military aid coming from the Americans, which is what Putin wants of course, so he can be closer to the objectives of his supposedly 3-day war.
On top of the windfall for the USA’s military-industrial complex that has been busy producing ammunition and artillery shells that still cannot match the rate at which their counterparts in Russia have been working overtime to sustain their war effort, a greedy Trump wants to show off his deal-making abilities and force Ukraine into give its mineral rights away to the Americans. If you come to think of it, what the Americans are now doing is practically an economic invasion on top of Putin’s military invasion.
Ukraine under President Volodymyr Zelensky, naturally refused to give away their mineral resources for aid in a deal that was totally lopsided. But after some convincing, he went to the USA last weekend, hopeful that he could strike a deal with Trump, for the sake of his country that is under attack.
Unfortunately for Ukraine and the rest of the free world, Zelensky was practically waylaid by US President Trump and sidekick/VP JD Vance, when the American “leaders” demanded subservience and started parroting the Russian propaganda on the unprovoked war that it started.
Faced with being ganged up on by such undiplomatic American bullies, the Ukrainian President had no choice but to stand his ground and walk away from the deal. That is a development that plays into the hands of the the Russian aggressors, who will most likely continue the invasion that involves the unnecessary slaughter of not only Ukrainians, but also their own people, as the Russian leaders apparently don’t mind sending their own troops on mindless “meat wave” attacks, sacrificing thousands of lives just to conquer a few more square meters of what has essentially been turned into rubble.
At this point, anyone who believes the Russian propaganda as far as this war is concerned, especially if they are a world leader who is supposed to have a staff and National Security Agencies dedicated to ensuring that they have the most accurate information at their fingertips, have to either be gullible and stupid, or has chosen to be maliciously ignorant, to further their own selfish ends. Unfortunately for the USA, their top 2 leaders look like they’ve swallowed the Russkie Kool Aid and have obviously chosen to side with evil.
What makes this American about-face even more difficult to comprehend is how Trump and Vance apparently cannot understand the advantages of their military aid deal for the America that they say they will make great again, which at the same time benefits the defense of Ukraine and the world order. What they look like to be doing instead is buying Putin’s Russia some more time to achieve the objectives of its war in Ukraine, which means we should expect more death and destruction because it looks like the bullies of the world are forming their own club.*
