WV dengue cases still rising

Dengue cases in Western Visayas have reached 569 as of February 4, which is an increase of 172 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

A total of 58 new cases were reported during the same period, increasing cases to 569, compared to 209 cases last year, a report of the Department of Health Western Visayas showed.

Negros Occidental remains on top of the list, having the most number of dengue cases in Western Visayas, among its provinces and highly urbanized cities, at 150, based on the DOH reports.

The dengue related fatalities also rose to seven, with three more deaths reported by DOH regional office in Aklan and Iloilo City.

Negros Occidental and highly urbanized Bacolod City, which has 52 cases, also logged one dengue related fatality each.

Twenty-three barangays in Western Visayas were reported to have clustering of dengue cases, with Brgy. So-oc in Arevalo, Iloilo City having been tagged as a “hotspot area” by the DOH regional office.*
