The Economy Cluster of the Regional Task Force against Covid-19 is planning to create a better business climate as economic activities in the region reopened amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Ro-Ann Bacal, director of National Economic and Development Authority Region 6, said more responsive and innovative government interventions are in place for the economic recovery in Western Visayas.

The cluster, composed of 27 regional line agencies, government-owned and controlled corporations, local government units, and private sector organizations in the region, recently met online to tackle new strategies and priority programs, projects, and activities under the National Action Plan against COVID-19 Phase 2.

During the meeting, committee members of the cluster presented their priority programs, projects, and activities to accelerate the economic recovery of the region, Bacal said.

The Economy Cluster will also oversee the performance of the 12 economic drivers in the region such as agriculture, fisheries, micro, small and medium enterprises, and large manufacturers, information technology/business process outsourcing;

Wholesalers/retailers, hotels and tourism-related establishments, property developers, private contractors, social institutions, financial institutions, port operations, and transportation groups, Bacal said.

She added that e-commerce will drive the economic recovery of the industry and the agriculture sector.

The cluster will convene regularly to attain their objectives which is a robust and resilient regional economy under the “new normal,” she said.*
