The Covid-19 pandemic did not stop philanthropist and businessman, Jerry Sy, and his family from continuing to entertain Bacolodnons and Negrenses, through their Yoyoland Christmas Village at their residence at corner San Agustin Drive in Bacolod City.
The Christmas village, described by visitors as “en grande”, is now open to the public after the switch-on ceremony Tuesday night, by Sy and his family, and attended by Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice-Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, Col. Romy Palgue, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, Salvador Benedicto Mayor Marxlen de la Cruz, and Bacolod Councilor Renecito Novero, among others.
“Despite the pandemic, we wanted to have this Christmas village, which I think is a symbol of hope to all of us,” Margrey Sy said. “Even in our little way, we can give back to the people of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.”
The Yoyoland Christmas village started in 2007 as simple Christmas decorations that were improved every year because the people appreciated it, she added.
“The holiday season has always been a reminder that through a time of adversity, there is hope. This time has not been any different, even more so that we need to be reminded that you can give back,” Sy also said.
Leonardia, however, strongly advised Bacolodnons not to be complacent, as the coronavirus is still around. The Yoyoland Christmas Village is now on its 13th year.*
