Former Mayor Isidro Zayco remains tightlipped on whether he is planning a comeback as mayor of Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental.
This was after Benjie Miranda confirmed on Sunday his re-election bid for the post of Kabankalan City mayor.
There are initial reports that the Kabankalan City 2025 mayoralty race will be a three-cornered fight between Miranda, Zayco, and Sixth District Board Member Valentino Miguel Alonso.
When asked about it, Zayco said it remains to be seen, adding that the election is still far off.
Many things will happen in two years’ time, and we don’t know who will run, he added.
Miranda, a former Army soldier turned politician, said that in his series of consultations with fellow Kabankalanons, majority of them want him to continue his service as mayor.
Zayco said he expects Miranda to seek reelection, since he is the incumbent mayor.
Miranda reported that he recently took his oath as a member of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, the political party of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Zayco has been in politics for more than 30 years, being a board member, vice governor, and governor of Negros Occidental, as well as mayor of Kabankalan City.
Miranda disclosed that Kabankalan City is open to anyone who wants to run for public office.
“I opened the city to anyone willing to run. I don’t say that someone is not good to run. Those who dream to serve can run. We also have the same intention and that is to serve the people,” he pointed out.
May the best man win, Miranda said.*
