Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and several other Negros Occidental local officials yesterday went on isolation after Kabankalan City Mayor Pedro Zayco tested positive for COVID-19.

Lacson and Zayco were among those who attended the Love Negros fellowship on September 18 at the Nature’s Village Resort in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

Zayco, who is confined at a private hospital in Bacolod City, is feeling well, according to Kabankalan City Information Officer Jake Gonzales.

Lacson said that Mayor Zayco, who is fully vaccinated, “sounded well” during their conversation over the phone.

Gonzales disclosed that the Mayor’s Office of Kabankalan City was temporarily closed for disinfection, and contact tracing, while its personnel has been ordered to go on isolation, pending RT-PCR testing scheduled on September 22.

Provincial Consultant Alfredo Benitez, who also attended the Love Negros meeting and fellowship with his brother, Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez and Abang Lingkod Rep. Stephen Joseph Paduano, also advised those who were present to go on self-isolation.

Lacson said he is scheduled to be swabbed on September 23.

As of September 19, Kabankalan City logged 160 COVID-19 active cases.

The municipal government of Binalbagan also issued an advisory on the temporary closure of its Accounting, Treasurer, Local Registrar, Business and Licensing offices effective September 20, pending disinfection and contact tracing of persons infected by COVID.19.*
