Senate Majority Floor Leader yesterday lauded the Commission on Election for extending the voter registration period by three weeks, starting from October 9 to 31 this year.
This was after both the Philippine Senate and House of Representatives, in a rare move, as described by some, joined hands in urging the Comelec to extend the voter registration period.
COMELEC’s announced three-week extension will start only after the period for filing of certificates of candidacy, which lasts from October 1 to 8.
“We’re very happy with this decision. Ang laki ng magagawa nitong extension for our democratic process. And I really hope our people take advantage of these extra three weeks, to get out, register, and eventually vote.” Zubiri, in his issued press statement, said.
Zubiri, who authored and sponsored the Senate version of the bill extending voter registration period, thanked Chairman Shariff Abas and the COMELEC for hearing the call not just of Congress, but of our people.
“Judging by the packed lines at our registration sites, talagang gusto po ng maraming Pilipino na makaboto, and they deserve the chance to do so, he said.*
