University of St. La Salle held on to defeat STI West Negros University AS Group Bleachers 75-72 in the 21 and Under category, to nail the top spot in Bracket A of the 3rd Chairman’s Cup Negros played at the Msgr. John Liu Activity Center.
Other Bracket A games saw JJP University of Negros Occidental improve to 3-1, along with their quarterfinals chances, with an emphatic 100-58 win against Brgy 2/Sto. Niño Dockers, which a day earlier squeaked past Spartans Basketball in a 70-69 game. The Underdogs also barged into the win column against Spartans Basketball, 75-44.
VMA Undrafted also had a close call against Bleachers Sportsbar, pulling away in the end the game 80-71, tying CSAB Strived at 5-0 in Bracket B standings. CSAB defeated Mejica Automotive/Fyr Fyter 74-58, while the Bleachers ended their elimination round at 3-3 with a 76-28 blowout victory against Red Owl. Delta V also registered its first win against Red Owl, 60-50.
Meanwhile, the battle for leadership in Bracket C of the 17 and Under category saw Acster Bacolod Tay Tung High School assure themselves of the top spot as they survived Reach Sports Colegio De San Agustin Bacolod, 44-43.
Reach Sports bounced back the day after, with a 52-44 victory against Frogtrail Valladolid to keep 2nd place in the bracket.
C&C Café/Ang Bata Hardware defeated Kenn to keep their unblemished record at 4-0 in Bracket A, while Brgy. Granada scored its first victory against Shockwave, 56-42.
USLS sealed the pole position in Bracket B with 4 straight wins, after dominating Spartans Basketball 75-44. OBI knights scored back to back wins against Bacolod Trinity Christian School/Lamtex Plastic Ware, 85-75, and CTTC Wolves/El Tzino, 71-62, to end their elimination round campaign and secure the second spot in the Bracket with a 4-1 card.
The elimination round will end Monday, with the top 3 teams advancing to the quarterfinals which will start on June 11. All playoff games will be played at the Willy and Nolita Au Court, Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
