The provincial government of Negros Occidental is committed to give P2,000 to farmers affected by the ongoing drought, according to Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson.

Lacson admitted that the process of distribution is slow, noting that the Department of Social Welfare and Development is very careful in releasing the amount, as they validate the list of beneficiaries thoroughly.

The damage to rice and corn crops in Negros Occidental has hit P97,788,037 as of March 27, according to a report by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.

A total of 136 barangays, 2,585 farmers and 2,189.06 hectares of rice land in Negros Occidental have been affected by the drought.

The moment we could release the first batch, Lacson said “it will be continuous already.”*
